Chimney Sweeper/ part time bare-knuckle boxer

Background:

Canarywood’s origins were quite humble. Mother had her own housecleaning business and father would do construction and box on the side for entertainment sport, Nary never really had much care for anything but still caused just enough trouble to get himself known, but not enough to acquire too many enemies.

He would spend his childhood helping his father down at any building site learning how to box from him and his buddies. That grew into a love of bare-knuckle boxing and the constant “friendly” fights with comrades or drunken brawls. Nary doesn’t fight angry, he just fights because he loves it, and tries to find someone to challenge him in that arena. It came to a point that he did it so often he knew the inside of the town lock up enough to have a favorite cell. A good deal of the guards know him and gladly play cards when things are slow, pass him his fiddle to play, or will let him out of his confinement for sparing practice, until the guard gets reprimanded.

Work:

Nary was told by the Spirit Counselor that he would be a cleaner of dust and soot but the young male didn’t understand until a fire erupted from an old house near one of the construction sites. It had taken it and the project house along with it and when contained and doused they found that the chimney was clogged and filled with so many embers that when they rose caught debris on the roof to flame and eventually the huge damage.

So from there he shifted his focus on how to clean and maintain chimneys of all types offering a repair service, from his construction knowledge. Canary is very serious about his chimney sweep business. He never misses an appointment, never makes a promise that he can’t keep, and no one is turned away even if they can’t afford it. He loves his job enough to help out whenever he can, and couldn’t live with himself if a fire started at a place he turned down.

He is, in fact, so serious on keeping appointments that he will ask a guard for probation leave to complete his work and return promptly after finishing- much to the bemusement of employer and guards alike.

Canary also loves to drink and you will find him just about anywhere that serves alcohol or has fight gambling of some sort.

Personality:

Little bit fast with the talk, all or nothing attitude, and blunt, Nary can give a wrong impression first meeting. But if a person sticks with him enough would see that he is rather personable, cheeky and crude with his humor, and his bluntness just comes from the observation at hand. If you ask him his opinion he will give it, but he expects the person to remember that it is what it is- his opinion and nothing more. But all and all Canary knows when to have a good time, and can usually find people to make that happen.

He does listen to peoples thoughts and woes but the response will be drastically different from acquaintances than friends and loved ones. It hits him harder to deal with those close to him than a strangers piss and vinegar over what he said, but no matter how bad it gets he is more often than not there for them until the end – even if it personally hurt.

Canary finds most comfort in the rush of fighting and playing his fiddle after a long day, and sometimes will perch himself on the roof, a balcony at a bar, or in a cell block to play.

Additional:

Though his horn is constantly rubbed down because of his work Canary will not seek help for the pain when it starts to grow back. This is due from him developing a very nasty addiction to a pain tonic that made him violent and vindictive. He quit cold turkey and doesn’t even try to take any medicine for fear of it happening again. More often he will just take the pain in stride; however, if things get to bad he will give in and go to a healer, but will be rather stubborn if he has to take anything.
