Family Background: Salmonberry has a simple and happy family life. Both parents are alive and live on the outer branches of the great tree where the wind is high and the view of the lake is clear. His mother is a giantess of sorts, reaching the height of 7'3" (where his father was only 6'1"). A fighter, she excelled in the art of hand to hand combat and has a magic affinity with air. With weapons she would choose her Qiang (spear) named Wind Splitter but is proficient with other armaments. Retired she now teaches her art to others and Sal while tending to the daily activities of the bathhouse. Father is a water mage that works to keep the Unavisi in Terras favor in that element and directs the flow of water to different areas. (like a city water works director). River's crossing has been passed down for three generations and is used for anything from cleansing rituals to a public bath house for the users of the dojo Background: Again Sal's life wasn't filled with much strife but it never stopped him from working as much as he could to understand different view points around him. When younger he had a knack for telling stories and picking up new ones through dreams or even an every day happening. He also had the ability to understand deeper meanings behind each story and eventually find the source. With that the Spirit Counselor found he would be suited as a Storyteller; one that could not only retain the current happenings around Haven, but recall ancient tales in all its tragic, or heroic, glory. Salmonberry's parents also noticed that he could manipulate water and air so they worked with him to cultivate his talent. He learned simple techniques and slowly gains new understanding of both elements they are used in completely different fashions. One is used mainly with his story telling talent while the other is more aligned with combative arts. Salmonberry spent most of his time pouring over the old text looking for information or inspiration to unlock keys to the past. However it wasn't as easy as he believed. The stories came to him freely before but taking years to study only old text dulled Sal's mind overlapping some of the stories he had already knew. It started to frustrate him and he took a break by going from different areas of Haven to listen to what was around him becoming different things from bartender to an errand boy. His travels let him hear many different tales of life, however did not bring much inspiration back with in his own. A little discouraged he returned to the Main Library to find a better way to regain his magic, until it returned to him in the form of The Book of Legends that was found by a mining team. Written entirely in old speak its slowly being translated by Wineberry and other members of the Archival staff, but the book takes on a different meaning when Sal reads from it. Personality: Salmonberry is mellow. So much that it's even reflected in his speech, he speaks...very...slowly, except of course when telling a story or fighting. For those who aren't friends or around him much often mistaken him for being dumb. Amused he will play along, quietly listening to what they have to say until it brings about an interesting tale. But in the long run he tries to keep his talking to a minimum so not to frustrate anyone. He loves water and would almost live in it if he could. Most could find him near the beach edge or on an outer branch facing the lake or trying to discover what lives in it. From his fathers magic tutelage Sal even uses it while telling; letting it form into scenes while he recalls the story, or to quickly amuse bar patrons while they wait for their drink. He enjoys sitting with friends in a room filled with people to gather snippets of information and because most think he's a bit slow in the head won't give him much mind. However Sal won't use the information adversely. He usually keeps it to himself, unless pressed then will tell a tale and let the listener take what meaning they got from it. He found that things that happen today have happened before and could always be told in a story...or even be remembered as a new tale to be recorded and told to the following generations to come. Battle Sal never served for the Guard but enjoys taking up fighting art and will spend some of his time sparing with either his mother, helping her at the dojo, or teaching his friend Arrowroot how to use his staff and budding air talent effectively. He uses his air magic to aid his movements and if need be enhance his strikes. From his mother Salmonberry learned different techniques both hand (favoring Tai-Chi and Water Boxing) and weapon based (mainly staff, short sword, and even his tail) and they still spar and study together and occasionally Sal will help her teach students. Relations: Arrowroot: Recent friendship that grew stronger over the events of Blood Moon. He respects the Gryphon Rider but can see him fade from the loss of his mother despite his cheerfully sly and cheeky nature. He keeps Rowe's spirit up by telling him old tales while Rowe tells him of his findings on the field. Camucamu: Friend with Rowe's twin he was thankful when her team brought the Book of Legends to the Great Library. Sal admires her fortitude, love of Terra, and obvious love of her family even if things are strained. He is always amused with her boy chasing nature and how it brings the look of horror to most guys she comes in contact with. Wineberry: Was curious when she constantly asked to have him deliver lunch to her and Unedo...then Unedo quietly leaving before eating. After this happening a few times Sal had formally asked the head Librarian out for dinner and let their relationship run its course. Persimmon: Kind enough to let him help around the Gilded Gown once in awhile when he needs help. Will also do storytelling there from time to time. Raspberry: Cousin from her mothers sister and very different. Sal doesn't exactly like her younger cousin's gossip monger ways, but knows there is a place for it; though not real exact on what it is. They don't always see eye to eye but he handles her with a smile and occasional story. Feijoa- Salmonberry first met the librarian at his mother’s dojo even though they have crossed paths in the Great Library. Wolfberry recommended Tai Chi to the frail female to build her stamina, strength, and teach her how to meditate taking her mind off of her pain. Once they met and Sal heard her story he progressed from her sub instructor to her work out partner. Rhubarb Salmonberry met the tailor from first getting martial arts exhibition robes from him. He enjoyed the fit and the feel so much that a majority of his clothes are made by the talented haberdasher.
